Every year I get hornets building nests on the over hangs of my roof. I’m all for fauna and flora in my yard, but I don’t want them to get in my house and I don’t want them to sting my dog or cat who roam my (fenced) yard during the warmer months. Knocking the nest down doesn’t seem to work. It is my third summer in the house and they come back every year. Maybe they already live in my roof? I guess I have some sympathy for them as I don’t want to douse them with chemicals but if I have to then I will. Any info is appreciated…I just caught a little bugger starting his nest right by my door today!
Spray the area on a regualr basis with a garden hose , flush em out, and soak their nests. They are made of paper and can easily be destroyed before it becomes a problem. Wait until dusk, hornets become more dormant once the sun goes down for the day.
Is there a chemical free way to get rid of hornets?

I always take a quarter full bottle of Mt. Dew and let it set out there. they will be drawn to it and drown. I have eliminated hundred of them in this manner. Other then taking precautions during the off season. Rotts of Ruck.

You can use a vacuum cleaner at night. Make a long extension with some PVC pipe from the hardware store. (Keep a cover on the hose so they don’t come out when you turn it off but most will be killed by the fan blades.)
