Why should I get a year supply of food?

Somebody said something funny about my friend Mick Donald who live down the street,
or Ronald McDonald or whatever they said; but seriously: why should I or you or us or we get a year supply? Why why why? I didn’t mean to get so rhythmical there. Dr. Seuss and Horton
still running through my mind.

The economy is crashing.

Since you posted this in the religion and spirituality section, you’re probably expecting a 2012 answer or something, right?

No matter what a person’s beliefs are (or aren’t), we are all responsible for taking care of ourselves. Look around at the economic and political atmosphere, and decide whether you feel secure. If not, then you need to be doing whatever you can do to take care of yourself and your family. If you have storage room and the financial means, stock up on non-perishable foods and other items you will need if you cannot get to a store for awhile. It doesn’t necessarily have to be for a year, but everyone should make sure they have enough for several days in case of emergencies.
Where I live, getting stuck at home in winter is common. So are power outtages. I wouldn’t be doing a decent job of taking care of my family if I didn’t prepare for things that I know are likely to happen.
So do whatever you need to do to feel like you’re prepared for an emergency.

To stimulate the economy. Speaking of which, why are they so obsessed with "consumer confidence"? What about the confidence of business leaders? Their actions count more than anyone else. We consumers will be confident, if they will be confident enough to hire us for jobs!
