The Mormon church has farms and ranches, They teach their people to store 1 years worth of food and supplies. Will the United States and other countries look to them for guidance.

uh for guidance? hardly. Storing food isn’t an idea they came up with all on their own, and it’s not exactly an idea you need "guidance" in following through on. Other people have farms and ranches too, without the creepy indoctrination attached to it.

I don’t think that food storage alone is enough. I think there is more to that can be taught about self-reliance that we can share on an inter-faith basis. Reducing debt, living within your means, getting the best education, all have to be evaluated together.
The Third World should look at the example of the Perpetual Education Fund. People in poor countries are loaned money to learn a trade. They pay it back when they have a better paying job, and the next group gets funds.
The Church decided that the bulk of Tsunami relief would be in the second and third years and devoted to rebuilding housing and infrastructure. It doesn’t make headlines, but it is as important to follow through as it is to give immediate aid.

Have you ever looked at the long term cost/benefit of your programs? My friends and family wasted tons of food in this program. Very few people actually ever manage to eat any of it. It isn’t tasty or convenient.
How many people have starved to death because so much food was diverted to Mormon basements and never used?
Utah has the highest rate of bankruptcy in the nation. This is just one more reason.
