Is it true that weight training is good for speeding up your metabolism?
Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010I’ve heard that all exercise is great for that but weight training specifically is good for it. If so, what sort of training should you do?
It’s absolutely true.
weight training does assit in speeding up your metabolism. Buy building lean muscle mass, you are increasing the amount of time you can burn energy at a high level.
After a work out, your body can still continue to burn energy at a higher level then at rest for up to 48 hours.

Does doing weight training once a week make a difference when you usually train with bodyweight?
Sunday, February 28th, 2010Say you do pushups, chinups, and other bodyweight workouts every day. My question is, would doing weight training say once a week make a difference in your strength? Is it worth your time? I know high rep exercises like pushups train different muscle fibers than do the low rep workouts with weight training, so is that counter-intuitive? Can you effectively develop both high rep bodyweight strength as well as low rep training with weights?
Thanks!
Yes, you can train everything imaginable at once. If you were to only weight train once a week, the best sort of training would probably be low-rep, high-set, high-weight strength training because there wouldn’t be many results otherwise. I would recommend weight training more often, but if you can only manage once a week, do this.
I wouldn’t really call high-rep bodyweight exercises "strength" either. More like "endurance", I reckon, haha. You can also do higher intensity, low-rep bodyweight exercises such as one handed push ups and one legged squats if you ease yourself into them. In fact, if you are actually a traceur then I would recommend you get good at difficult calisthenics such as these as well as the ordinary kinds. Your instantaneous strength will be far more important than your endurance for this sport.

Ryan Stoutt training with Justin Kavanaugh of Elite Athletes between his sophomore and junior year. Watch Coach Kavanaugh use of heavy chains to add to the resistance to the common bench press and pull up routines. The more the chains come off the ground the heavier it gets. This is an hour and a half work out cut down to 7 minutes.

Advanced Weight Training Techniques – Made Fit TV – Ep 86
Friday, February 26th, 2010How much weight training should a distance runner do?
Thursday, February 25th, 2010I’ve heard that its better to weight train before the season starts so it gives you a good base, but then how much should you continue to weight train during your competition season? And how much do you think it could improve my time? I run a 1:43 half marathon, but my training isn’t that structured.
you can do weight training. But focus on high reps with low weight, otherwise you will bulk up with too much "fast twitch" muscle fibres, which will just slow you down over long distances.
